My Back Page

I write "public school" columns for several local newspapers including the Lindsay News, Blanchard News, and Purcell Register - so I thought I would try my hand at blogging. I've named the blog "Education and Politics" for several reasons. First of all, I have a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) in public school finance and budgeting from O.U. - hence the "education" part of the title. Secondly, I ran for the House District 42 seat in Oklahoma (unsuccessfully) during the 2016 campaign season - hence "politics". It can be argued that I have more experience and expertise in education, since I've been in public education for 35 years, than I do in the political arena (I've only been in politics for 2 years). I more often than not write about the issues facing our public schools today, but every so often I relate stories of growing up in the "hills" of Rush Creek (Purdy, Oklahoma) and in the hallways of Lindsay Public Schools. I will also blog about the role that politics play in the public school setting, a most recent phenomenon (and most unfortunate one).
So, I'm now trying my hand at this "blogger thing" and hope it will be a success. I hope to be as colorfully rhetorical" as my political opponent believes I am. This will be my first experimental blog, then, so I need lots of subscribers. If not, I'll just have to go back to the old drawing board.
